BICC Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) capacity-building seminar in Kenya

Activity description

Within the framework of the PSSM Capacity Development and Technical Advice in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa project, BICC organized a capacity-building training in PSSM in Nairobi, Kenya, from 16-23 March 2018. This seminar aimed at developping capacities in the area of PSSM for armed forces and security agencies from Burundi, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, the Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Tanzania. Organized in partnership with the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA), the Multinational Small Arms and Ammunition Group (MSAG) and the International Peace Support Training Centre (IPSTC), the seminar was attended by 25 participants from military and police forces. Besides the training, the seminar included a train-the-trainer component.

Project description

Within the framework of the ‘Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) Capacity Development and Technical Advice in the Sahel and the Horn of Africa’ project, BICC conducted capacity development activities for the African Union as well as for select focus states in the Sahel region (Burkina Faso, Chad, Sudan) and in the Horn of Africa (Uganda, Somalia, Djibouti). The project aimed, inter alia, at: providing technical assistance in the area of PSSM/SALW to the African Union Peace and Security Department (PSD) and the Regional Centre on Small Arms (RECSA); supporting regional and sub-regional PSSM training courses organized in cooperation with RECSA (IPSTC course in Nairobi, Kenya) and the German Armed Forces’ Verification Center (ZVBw). The project, funded by Germany and conducted in 2016-2017, was carried out in cooperation with the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) and the ZVBw.
