Activity description

As part of the project ‘Building Capacities on Arms Control in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Region’, the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) organized an executive education course in Geneva on 9-13 July, 2018. The activity was funded by the Swiss Federal Departments of Foreign Affairs (DFAE) and Defence, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS). It brought together 14 officials from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Libya, Palestine, Senegal and Sudan, and representatives of NGOs and GCSP Fellows. The course provided an opportunity for the participants to discuss international legal and other responses to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and conventional weapons. Geneva-based experts delivered presentations on nuclear, chemical, biological, and conventional weapons as well as international humanitarian law. The participants took part in visits and exercises as well as a roundtable on the role of civil society and gender issues.
