Atelier de Reflexion sur le Trafic Illicite des Armes Legeres et de Petit Calibre dans la Zone Frontaliere Burundi-RDC (Reflection Workshop on Illicit Trafficking of SALW in Burundi-Democratic Republic of Congo Border Areas)
The 'Reflection Workshop on Illicit Trafficking of SALW in Burundi-DRC Border Areas' was held by Action on Armed Violence (AOAV) in partnership with the Burundi national SALW commission, (Commission National Permanente de Lutte contre la prolifération des armes légère et de petit calibre or CNAP), and the DRC national SALW commission, (Commission Nationale de Contrôle des ALPC et de réduction de la violence armée or CNC-ALPC). The Meeting brought together representatives of civil society and government from Burundi and DRC to start a practical project to tackle the illicit trafficking of SALW across borders. According to the results and recommendations of the border assessment the newly formed Burundi-DRC Working Group a Joint Action Plan will be developed which will lay out concrete steps to fight the cross-border traffic of SALW.
The workshop was part of the UN Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation (UNSCAR) funded project entitled, 'Combating and Preventing the Illicit Trade of SALW in the Border Regions of DRC and Burundi.'
