EU P2P ATT OP II Interagency coordination workshop in Côte d’Ivoire
As part of the second phase of the European Union’s P2P ATT Outreach Project, Expertise France organised a fourth workshop in Côte d’Ivoire, on 12 and 13 February 2020, in cooperation with the national point of contact, the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (ComNat-ALPC).
Held in Abidjan, this workshop brought together representatives of the main Ivoirian ministries involved in arms transfer controls as well as experts from the High Authority of Import Control of Arms and their Use of Burkina Faso, Conflict Armament Research and the French Ministry of the Interior.
For two days, the speakers shared advices and experiences with the attendees on topics such as:
- The progressive implementation of the provisions of the ATT to strengthen a national arms transfer control system;
- The work of licensing and enforcement officials in arms transfer controls (from the entire licence application process to field checks, post-authorisation monitoring and cases of noncompliance with the regulations);
- The contribution of the ATT to the fight against the illicit trade and the diversion of conventional arms.
The EUP2P ATT is a programme of the European Union in support of the implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) co-implemented by Expertise France and BAFA. The main objectives of this programme are to promote the effective implementation of the ATT by supporting partner countries in the strengthening of their arms transfer control systems and to work towards the universal adoption of the treaty.
