On 1-4 July 2019, the Federal Government of Somalia organised a series of political and technical meetings with RECSA and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) with the ultimate goal to create an Action Plan for the control on transfers of ammunition and weapons within Somalian borders. The meetings produced a six-month plan which aimed to: 1) create a National Commission on SALW able to meet Somalian needs in relation to ammunition and weapons controls; 2) prevent illicit access to weapons by terrorists and 3) strengthen Somalian commitment with the UN Arms Embargo.
