Activity description

The Workshop was organized by Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) in close cooperation with, the National Assembly of Cape Verde. The workshop brought together over 40 prominent Legislators and Government officials from Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Mozambique, Portugal and Sao Tome and Principe for a two day period to discuss and review the Arms Trade Treaty and its significance in the context of the Lusophone community, many members of which are more vulnerable island/multiple island states and/or possess long coastal areas that are difficult to police. The Workshop sought to identify a range of practical steps and initiatives that could be taken to promote ratification and implementation of the ATT. In addition to the announcements made by representatives of the participating countries, an ambitious Plan of Action was adopted at the end of the Workshop to facilitate crucial follow up actions by all participants.
