Activity description

UNREC organized the workshop in order to validate the practical handbook on disarmament in Africa, which is prepared as part of the Centre’s efforts to make disarmament, non-proliferation and arms control information available in French. This meeting brought together around twenty experts and practitioners from foreign affairs and defense ministries, international, regional and sub regional organizations and civil society from seven francophone countries, including Benin, Chad, Cote d 'Ivoire, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Senegal and Togo. The handbook, containing information on all categories of weapons, instruments and research centers in the African context, aims at providing francophone African countries, accurate and up-to-date information on disarmament that takes into account the African realities. The handbook will not only help strengthen the capacity of francophone African States to participate and contribute to various eminent political debates, but also support African civil society organizations master the major disarmament issues and contribute to strengthening peace through disarmament. It will also enable these organizations to identify partners who support their strategies.
