Activity description

As part of the Geneva Declaration's Best Practice Seminars, a regional seminar was held in Abuja, Nigeria for West African states. The objectives of the seminar were to: 1) review the development and progress of the implementation of AVRP policies and strategies in West Africa; 2) share experiences, lessons learned, and promising practices on AVRP programming; 3) increase regional cooperation among governments, international organizations, civil society, and development cooperation agencies; and 4) continue to bridge the gaps between the security, arms control, and development sectors for the development of policies and programmes aimed at preventing and reducing armed violence.

Project description

The Best Practice Regional Seminars aim at further implementing the “programming” pillar of the Geneva Declaration as its purpose is to bring together practitioners from government, civil society, international organizations and academia to provide concrete experiences and lessons learned in reducing and preventing armed violence. These experiences will then be further disseminated to the wider community of practitioners throughout the world.
