Activity description

As part of the European Union ‘Council Working Group on Conventional Arms Exports (COARM) Outreach Programme’, the second study visit for North African states took place in the London Heathrow Airport on 19-20 July 2017 with officials from Algeria and Morocco participating. The study visit provided an opportunity for the participants to gain insights into the customs procedures at the airport. The topics discussed during the visit included effective inter-agency cooperation, arms diversion and related counter-diversion strategies. The Counter Proliferation Team of Her Majesty’s Royal Customs (HMRC) demonstrated the workflow at different warehouses at Heathrow Airport to the participants. Experts from Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom contributed to the study visit.
