Activity description

The Inaugural Meeting of the Steering Committee of the Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS)-European Union (EU) Small Arms project was held in Abuja, Nigeria with the ECOWAS Commission, EU, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The meeting discussed inception activities, elaborated standard operating procedures for the project and work plans for each country including activities, targets and budget.

Project description

The ECOWAS-EU Small Arms Project is an integral component of the programme, 'EU Support to the ECOWAS Peace, Security and Stability' mandate which seeks to support ECOWAS in its capacity to effectively address factors of instability and reinforce a proactive approach to peace-building, conflict prevention and resolution in West Africa. The project will run from 2014 to 2017 and will be implemented by UNDP's respective country offices to coordinate implementation in close coordination with the National Commission of Small Arms in the 6 selected countries categorized within the Mano River Union and the Sahel.
