Activity description

This regional meeting of parliamentarians from North African and Middle Eastern countries on 12 November 2014 in Amman was organized by the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons in collaboration with the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Jordan. The participants in the meeting discussed arms proliferation and the present crisis in the MENA-region, the role of women in peacebuilding, the specific risks for women in conflicts and international instruments and treaties to prevent and reduce armed violence including the ATT and the UN Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light (PoA). The participating parliamentarians as well as a number of experts and participants from NGOs and other civil society organizations shared their views and discussed further actions and ways forward for the region.
