UK Weapons and Ammunition Accountability and Management (WAAM) Course for Kenya and Uganda

Activity description

As part of the National Security Council (NSC) Strategy sub-objectives, a UK Military Short Term Training Team (STTT) was deployed from 24 to 28 July 2017 in Nairobi within the British Support Team - Eastern Africa (BPST - EA) to assist SALW Ad, BPST (EA) and deliver a 'Weapons and Ammunition Accountability and Management (WAAM) Course' which took place at the Humanitarian Peace Support School (HPSS) in Nairobi. The course targeted 20 students from Kenya and Uganda and aimed to provide them with understanding of International Small Arms Control Standards and International Ammunition Technical Guidelines in respect of safe and secure SALW management; develop good practice in line with international standards; understand the complexity of information exchange between agencies and understand crime scene management with reference to SALW recovery. With this course, BPST (EA) sought to enhance its regional training network and to increase coordination between agencies nationally and regionally.
