UNDP-Argentina advance in the consolidation of the ANMaC and work towards practical disarmament
As part of the framework of the project "Support for the institutional consolidation of the ANMaC, with an emphasis on prevention and disarmament policies", UNDP in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of Argentina, and with funding from the Argentinian government, the National Agency for Controlled Materials (ANMaC) has confiscated over 1.14.545 firearms (voluntarily); carried out 547 activities on armed violence prevention and on voluntary disarmament; destroyed over 32.300 firearms; regularized over 9.000 legitimate firearm users; has implemented security measures to safeguard firearm deposits in 4 places and has installed the MODADE system (firearm storage administration IT system) in 19 entities in 2018.
The objective of the UNDP Project ARG / 16/021 "Support for the institutional consolidation of the ANMaC, with an emphasis on prevention and disarmament policies" is to contribute to the improvement of the management capacity of the National Agency for Controlled Materials - ANMaC -optimizing resources and capacities for the expansion and strengthening of strategic policies at the municipal, provincial and national levels.
The project will specifically contribute to the implementation of a comprehensive strategy to address the policies of: Prevention of Armed Violence, Voluntary Civil Disarmament, Destruction of Controlled Materials and Regularization of Legitimate Users. The project includes the creation of a
team of professionals dedicated exclusively to the design of awareness-raising proposals, the survey and research on the subject, the delivery of courses and workshops, among other related activities. The project is being implemented by UNDP and the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of Argentina, with funding from the Government of Argentina.
