UNMAS Weapons and Ammunition Management Training in Abyei

Activity description

On 20-24 August 2017, the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) delivered a Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) training in Abyei, Ethiopia, attended by 19 participants including representatives of Ethiopian Light Field Engineers and UNISFA. The training programme was aimed at developing the capacity of Ethiopian troops to plan, safely manage and operationally conduct WAM activities according to UNISFA mandate, as well as establishing the training capacity of Ethiopian troops to conduct WAM training for their members independently. Within the mandate of the UNISFA Mission to confiscate and destroy weapons found in the Abyei region, the Ethiopian troops are in charge of retrieving weapons and handing them over to UNMAS for destruction.
