UNRCPD Southeast Asia Training Workshop to Develop National Action Plans to Reduce Illegal Arms Flows
As part of its project 'Building Capacity of States in Southeast Asia to Prevent Diversion and Reduce Illicit Small Arms and Conventional Ammunition', on 1-4 October 2019, the UNRCPD organized a training to develop National Action Plans to Improve Implementation of the International Small Arms Control Standards based on the United Nations Modular Small Arms control Implementation Compendium (MOSAIC), in Bangkok.
The UNRCPD-led project on 'Building Capacity of States in Southeast Asia to Prevent Diversion and Reduce Illicit Small Arms and Conventional Ammunition' consisted of two activities: a) Outreach Seminar on Matters of Conventional Ammunition Management Including the UN SaferGuard Programme and the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG) held in March 2019, and b) Training on Develop National Action Plans to Improve Implementation of the International Small Arms Control Standards based on the United Nations Modular Small Arms control Implementation Compendium (MOSAIC). The project aimed to support Southeast Asian States with the safe and secure management of conventional ammunition, to prevent diversion and reduce illegal small arms flows through development of national action plans based on MOSAIC recommended practice, and to implement wider risk-mitigation actions to achieve the target 16.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals on the reduction of illicit arms flows.
