UNLIREC lleva a cabo capacitación nacional y subregional sobre moldeado doble para Barbados y los Estados del Caribe Oriental
In the framework of UNLIREC's Caribbean Operational Ballistics Assistance Package, UNLIREC, with funding from Canada and the USA, delivered two double cast training courses from 26 June - 6 July 2017 with participants from Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Five participants (four examiners and one IBIS technician) received training from 26-29 June, during UNLIREC's national double cast training course for Barbados. Five police armorers, two police drug detective and one forensic technologist from the Royal Police Forces of Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines and the St Vincent Forensic Drug Laboratory, participated in the sub-regional training during the 3-6 July. The training provided was based on INTERPOL’s Double Casting methodology. Double casting equipment was donated to the five states that participated in the training to allow them to build capacity and make replicas of bullets and cartridge cases to be shared across jurisdictions.
UNLIREC's Operational Forensic Ballistics Assistance Package project aims to support Caribbean governments in their efforts to combat illicit trafficking in firearms and ammunition and the resulting impact on armed violence through: (i) strengthening national capacities on operational forensic ballistics; (ii) the establishment of sound national operational forensic ballistics systems; and (iii) establishing effective information management and sharing of forensic ballistics information within governments, regionally within the Caribbean and internationally via INTERPOL. The project's overall goal is to reduce armed violence and impunity by strengthening the national and regional capabilities of the law enforcement communities.
