As part of the Libyan Security, Justice and Defence Programme implemented by the Department for International Development of the UK Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) and supported through the Conflict, Stability and Security Fund (CSSF), a series of activities focusing on management of arms and ammunition were conducted in Libya. The scope of these activities was to incorporate militia-held stocks into state stockpiles and ensuring that these were adequately secured and managed. Part of the Programme also included activities to enhance land, air and maritime borders' controls to reduce the flow, inter alia, of illicit arms and ammunition and also to support the Libyan government in the development of counter-proliferation capability. However, following the deterioration of the security situation in Libya the Government of the UK decided to pause and/or scale back part of these activities.
