In September 2012 US African Command (USAFRICOM) in coordination with U.S. Naval Forces Africa (USNAVAF) carried out a train-the-trainer mission with the Congolses Armed Forces and national mine action staff. The mission was aimed at buiding capacity in explosive ordinance disposal (EOD), explosive remnants of war (ERW) and battle area clearance operations, stockpile management, and medical first-responder techniques. It was carried out in response to the ammunition storage point explosion in Brazzaville in March 2012.
