On 14-15 September 2016, the third roadmap activity for Ghana was conducted within the framework of the EU ATT Outreach programme. The seminars topics have been selected in line with the jointly develop roadmap while the outcomes of the previous seminars were also taking into account. After the introduction by the Ghanaian focal points, a very interesting plenary discussion on UAVs and drones emerged. Afterwards, the participants were split into two breakout groups to parallel discuss licensing and enforcement issues, before meeting again in the plenary to share the outcomes. The second part of the activity was dedicated to discussion on illicit arms trafficking in Western Africa and rounded-up by a case study. The participants engaged in lively discussion on the different topics and shared their experience and opinions with the experts. The activity was supported by ATT-experts from Latvia, Slovenia, Hungary, and the United Kingdom.

Descripción del Proyecto

The goal of EU ATT Outreach Project is to support the early entry into force and effective implementation of the ATT. Upon request, the project will support a number of States in strengthening their arms transfer control systems with a view to being able to implement the ATT. The project also aims to increase awareness and ownership of the ATT at national and regional levels and therein contribute to its universalisation. The EU ATT Outreach Project has three different components: 1) Tailored National Assistance Programmes; 2) Ad-hoc Activities; and 3) Regional Seminars. National assistance programmes are developed in close cooperation with partner countries. Key elements of national assistance programmes are: an initial needs assessment visit; inclusive roadmap development; and, practical support follow up activities. The project is implemented by BAFA and co-funded between the EU and the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
