GRIP-UNDP Ceremony for the official handing over of the guide on stockpile managment in Côte d’Ivoire
As part of the 'Programme supporting the fight against the proliferation of SALW and community securing', the National Commission to Combat the Proliferation and Illicit Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons (ComNat-SALW) organized the official handover ceremony of the Handbook of Procedures for the Management of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) Stocks and their Ammunition to the Forces of Côte d'Ivoire on 25 September 2017. The event was organized in partnership with Japan through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and was attended by representatives from, inter alia, the Embassy of Japan, UNDP, and the national police and customs. The document is meant to be a practical guide for national authorities managing SALW storage and to help the country aligning to international standards in this field.
The UNDP 'Programme supporting the fight against the proliferation of SALW and community securing' (Programme d’Appui à la Lutte contre la Prolifération des Armes Légères et de Petit Calibre (ALPC) et à la Sécurisation Communautaire) aims at supporting the Government of Côte d'Ivoire in the implementation of its activities against the proliferation of SALW and armed violence. This programme supports these efforts by providing expertise and sustaining the Commission Nationale de lutte contre la prolifération et la circulation illicite des ALPC (COMNAT-ALPC) and the institutions directly involved in the fight against SALW proliferation. The programme, financed by Japan, was carried between 2012 and 2015 and it was extended to a second phase in 2016 which has run for additional 24 months.
