Togo ATT Capacity Building and Awareness Raising Workshop II
From 25 to 27 October 2017, the Togo SALW NatCom (National Commission to Fight the Illicit Proliferation, Circulation and Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons, CNLPAL), with funding from the ATT Voluntary Trust Fund (ATT VTF), conducted a ATT capacity building and awareness raising workshop in the Maritime region in Togo. During the workshop, participants were introduced to the ATT and its scope (conventional weapons, ammunition, parts and components) including it history and evolution; transfer controls; international cooperation and international assistance; relations between the ATT and other international and regional instruments; an overview of the draft law on the arms regime in Togo; information exchange and data retention; and gender-based violence (GBV). During the workshop, participants took part in a practical exercise and an evaluation questionnaire.
The project "ATT appropriation and implementation training project, Advocacy for the adoption and popularization of the preliminary draft law on the arms regime" was implemented by the Togo SALW NatCom (National Commission to Fight the Illicit Proliferation, Circulation and Trafficking of Small Arms and Light Weapons, CNLPAL) with funding from the ATT Voluntary Trust Fund (VTF) from September 2017 until August 2018. The project aimed to develop capacities of ATT implementing actors and other civil society actors in order to take ownership of the content of the Treaty. As part of the project, seven capacity building and awareness raising projects were organized, including participants from states structures (Ministry of Security, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, Ministry of Human Rights, Ministry of territorial Administration, customs, police and gendarmerie) and civil society structures.
