Advanced Training Course for States of the East African and Southern African Sub-Regions on the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines

Activity description

Organized by UNREC, the aim of the training course on the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG) was to raise awareness and knowledge of national authorities and personnel who deal with conventional ammunition on a daily basis, so that they bring enhanced ammunition management practices and skills with them to their places of work. Personnel responsible for ammunition and explosive ordnance destruction from twelve countries from East and Southern Africa joined together with staff members from the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and a representative from the Mines Advisory Group (MAG) to take part in this training course.The training took place at the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

Project description

In the framework of the EU Council Decision in support of activities of UNODA to implement the UN PoA (Council Decision 2011/428/CFSP of 18 July 2011) support was provided to states to achieve full and effective implementation of the International Tracing Instrument (ITI) and the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATG).
