Activity description

This workshop on ‘Building Capacity on Effective Implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty’ was organised by GCSP, in cooperation with the Senegalese National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons (COMNAT/ALPC) and the Centre for Higher Studies on Defence and Security (CHEDS). During the workshop, experts from Europe and Africa, as well as representatives from the Voluntary Trust Fund (VTF) and from the ATT Secretariat shared their expertise with the participants. This provided an opportunity for the participants to discuss export and import controls, transit and transshipment, brokering, national implementation measures, the relationship with other international instruments, the role of civil society, gender-based violence, and the fight against illicit trafficking in arms, especially small arms and light weapons. The participants also took part in simulation exercises and case studies on export risk evaluation and the prevention of diversion.
