Nationwide Marking and Record Keeping of all Ghana Police Service Weapons (Phase 1)
In 2019, the UNDP office in Ghana, as part of the UNSCAR-funded project 'Nationwide Marking and Record Keeping of all Ghana Police Service Weapons (Phase 1)', and in cooperation with the Ghana National Commission on SALW, assisted in the marking of 8000 police weapons of the Ghana Police Service, and entered their records into a national database.
The project 'Nationwide Marking and Record Keeping of all Ghana Police Service Weapons (Phase 1)' was implemented by UNDP Ghana with the financial support of UNSCAR. The project aimed to strenghten weapons stockpile and inventory management in Ghana in accordance with relevant international standards such as the International Small Arms Control Standards (ISACS). The project also aimed to contribute to the implementation of the ECOWAS Convention on small arms and light weapons and other international instruments such as the United Nations Programme of Action (UNPoA), the International Tracing Instrument (ITI) and the Firearms Protocol (FP).
