United States and Panama Cooperate on Transit Security
The US Department of State's Export and Border Security Program (EXBS) worked with the Government of Panama on risk analysis models that can be used to segment high risk travellers and cargo through transit points. Mobile security teams, supporting the Panamanian Tocumen International Airport, continued to identify and intercept fugitives, persons associated with organized crime and terrorists' networks, as well as interdict narcotics, illicit items and currency being smuggled through Panama.
The U.S. Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program seeks to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and destabilizing accumulations and irresponsible transfers of conventional weapons by building effective national strategic trade control systems in countries that possess, produce, or supply strategic items, as well as in countries through which such items are most likely to transit.
