In June 2012, at the request of the Burundi Armed Forces and coordinated through the US Embassy in Burundi, the Defence Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) SALW personnel conducted a Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) assessment at five sites in Burundi. The team identified 'excess, obsolete, and unsafe ammunition for destruction, as well as recommended physical security upgrades.'
