Activity description

In the framework of the project: "Capacities and exchange of experiences in the region: clarifying processes in customs and border control to promote inter-institutional coordination for the creation and articulation of policies in search of the effective implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty ( ATT) ", the Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress, with funding from the ATT Voluntary Trust Fund (VTF), carried out a series of activities from July 23 to 27, 2018. 23 representatives from different countries (Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Panama) from the governmental sector and civil society with a focus on gun control, creation of capabilities and the fight against arms trafficking participated into the activities. The activities provided space for participants to share experiences and give continuity to previous work carried by Arias Foundation in January 2018. In addition, participants made a visit to two customs locations in Guatemala, one at the Anguiatú border and the other at the Agua Caliente border. Customs personnel shared their experiences and procedures in situ in relation to risk analysis and control procedures vis-à-vis the transit of sensitive goods (ammunition) and illegal trafficking of firearms.
