EU P2P ATT OP II Sub-Regional Seminar on “The challenges in establishing national legal frameworks, control systems and governmental mechanisms for implementing arms transfers in ASEAN countries”.
On 30-31 January 2020, Expertise France and BAFA, in the framework of the second phase of the EU P2P ATT Outreach Project, organized a second sub-regional seminar on “The challenges in establishing national legal frameworks, control systems and governmental mechanisms for implementing arms transfers in ASEAN countries” in Manila 30-31 January 2020. The two-day event was organized jointly with the Philippines' Office of the Special Envoy on Transnational Crime.
The seminar was attended by representatives of the Philippines, Cambodia, Malaysia and Thailand and allowed an exchange of expertise and incentives for countries of the ASEAN region for ratifying the Arms Trade Treaty and implementing it with the support of all the actors involved in arms transfers controls. The participants elaborated together a document addressing the most frequently asked questions in relation to both ratification and implementation of the Treaty.
Participants committed to continue their efforts promoting general implementation of the ATT in their countries, with the expected continued support of the European Union.
The EUP2P ATT is a programme of the European Union in support of the implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) co-implemented by Expertise France and BAFA. The main objectives of this programme are to promote the effective implementation of the ATT by supporting partner countries in the
strengthening of their arms transfer control systems and to work towards the universal adoption of the treaty.
