China: ATT Universalization Trip

Activity description

As part of the ‘Universalization Trip China and ASEAN – March 2017’, Ambassador Klaus Korhonen of Finland, President of the Third Conference of State Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty (CSP3), and Dumisani Dladla, the Head of the ATT Secretariat, met Chinese officials and stakeholders in Beijing on 13-14 March 2017. Participants of the meeting included representatives of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives of some of the ATT initiating states (Australia, Costa Rica, Japan, Kenya and the UK), and representatives of the Australian and Bulgarian Vice Presidents of CSP3. Furthermore, the delegation of the European Union to China, as well as members of the National Defence University, of the Institute of Arms Control and Security Studies and the China Arms Control & Disarmament Association participated in the meeting. The aim of this meeting was to further promote the universalization of the ATT through engagement with key stakeholders in China.

Project description

The ‘Universalization Trip China and ASEAN – March 2017’ was undertaken by a delegation led by Ambassador Klaus Korhonen of Finland, President of the Third Conference of State Parties to the Arms Trade Treaty (CSP3) and Dumisani Dladla, the Head of the ATT Secretariat. The delegation undertook a trip to a number of Asian states to promote the universalization of the ATT through engagement with representatives of relevant stakeholders. During his term as President of CSP3, the Ambassador undertook further Universalization trips to Africa and the Americas.
