UNLIREC implements its firearm technical meeting in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago

Activity description

As part of the UNLIREC’s Combat of Illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons and Ammunition in the Caribbean project, UNLIREC, with funding from Germany, conducted a Firearms Marking Technical Meeting in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago from 21-22 June 2018. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen national capacities for the marking of imported, exported or seized firearms, in line with the legal requirements of the CIFTA, the Firearms Protocol,the PoA and the ITI. The event included representatives of the Police Service, Forensic Science Centre, Customs and Excise Department and the Ministry of National Security. UNLIREC demonstrated the practical use of its laser marking machine and of a reagent to recover laser markings on weapons.

The Firearm Marking Technical Meeting is part of UNLIREC’s Combat of Illicit Small Arms and Light Weapons and Ammunition in the Caribbean which is made possible due to the support of the government of Germany.
