Activity description

Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) hosted a Regional Parliamentary Workshop to promote Ratification and Implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty in Latin America. The main purpose was to discuss and clarify the Key elements of the ATT – its parameters and scope, including addressing any misperceptions regarding the ATT through presentations from experts and also to disseminate and discuss the PGA’s Parliamentary Handbook and Toolkit on Ratification and Implementation of the ATT. The overall purpose was to generate further support for the ATT so as to hasten the process of signature, ratification and implementation of the ATT across the Latin America region.

Project description

Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA) Peace and Democracy Programme focuses in marshalling global parliamentary support for improved regulation of the international arms trade, in particular where its inadequacies play a demonstrated role in destabilizing countries, causing or fuelling conflict and/or delay the emergence of countries from conflict. The PGA Global Parliamentary Campaign for Universality and Implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty is actively promoting signature and/or ratification of the ATT within their Parliaments and in close contact with their respective Governments.
