Descripción de la actividad

As part of the United Nations Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation (UNSCAR)-funded project ‘Connecting the dots: Supporting SDG 16, ATT and PoA implementation through increased parliamentary engagement and action in international processes’, the Parliamentary Forum on Small Arms and Light Weapons (PFSALW), in cooperation with the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), organised a regional seminar in Indonesia on May 7-8 2018. The objective of the activity was to increase parliamentary understanding, participation and ownership in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 16.4, the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the United Nations Programme of Action to Prevent, Combat and Eradicate the Illicit Trade in Small Arms and Light Weapons in All Its Aspects (PoA). The activity also sought to prepare and engage parliamentarians in the run-up to the PoA Third Review Conference. During the regional seminar, parliamentarians from the focus countries Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, together with representatives from Cambodia, international organisations, the civil society and the diplomatic community met to work on the implementation of international instruments that guide and regulate the control of conventional arms. A Parliamentary Action Plan was developed during the seminar as a result of the discussions and identified recommendations.]

Descripción del Proyecto

The project ‘Connecting the dots: Supporting SDG 16, ATT and PoA implementation through increased parliamentary action in international processes’ built on efforts to implement and universalise the 2030 Agenda, Sustainable Development Goal 16.4, the ATT and the PoA. The project put special focus on providing parliamentarians with the adequate tools to support these processes at the national and regional level. It used the momentum of the 2030 Agenda, the ATT and the PoA to gather parliamentarians from focus countries, which facilitated the exchange of experiences, challenges and best practices that surround the legislative work of these three international instruments. The project included a strengthened effort to engage parliamentarians as part as part of the run-up and preparation for the PoA Third Review Conference in June 2018
