Activity description

The 46th Ministerial Meeting of the United Nations Standing Advisory Committee on Security Questions in Central Africa (UNSAC) took place from 29 May to 1 June 2018. The meeting, attended by the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General and experts from the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), provided the participants with the opportunity to address the security and geopolitical situation in the subregion with discussions mainly focused on: 1) mercenarism and transnational crime; 2) illicit cross-border trafficking; 3) proliferation of small arms and light weapons and 4) maritime piracy. Furthermore the issues related to the fight against armed violence and terrorism in Central Africa and the presence of the Boko Haram terrorist group in the Lake Chad Basin were covered during discussions.

Project description

The Ministerial Meetings of UNSAC are bi-annual meetings that provide an analysis of the disarmament situation in Central Africa, with a specific focus on the advances in the implementation of international, regional and sub-regional instruments. The Committee is a sub-regional grouping of eleven Member States: Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Rwanda, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
