BICC/Germany Small Arms Destruction Training for African Instructors

Activity description

As part of a training program for African countries implemented by the German Ministry of Defence, 25 officers from 16 Sub-Saharan countries were invited to Germany to attend a two weeks training program starting on 25 November 2018 and carried in partnership with the Bonn International Center for Conversion (BICC) and in close cooperation with the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry of Defense and the Bundeswehr Verification Center. The participants, with military, police and civil administration backgrounds, were given the opportunity to meet German experts on SALW and to set up a network for Africa and exchange ideas with their counterparts in the Ministry of Defense in Berlin, gather advice with experts from the German oreign Office and gain insight into the tasks of the Federal Academy for Security Policy (Bundesakademie für Sicherheitspolitik, BAKS). The training addressed issues related to PSSM, threats posed by MANPADS and SALW destruction.
