Activity description

As part of the Asian Export Control Seminar project, on the 24th Asian Export Control Seminar participants exchanged views concerning strengthening of systems and countermeasures against sophisticated procurement activities by countries of concern and terrorist groups, and progress and challenges in the development of security export control. In view of global security developments Asia, a region with dramatic economic development, is facing increased risk of being taken advantage of by countries of concern and terrorist groups as supply source of sensitive goods and as a base for circumvention trade. The event was organised in cooperation with Australia, Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Netherlands, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and the United States

Project description

The Asian Export Control Seminar was launched in 1993 for officials in charge of export control in Asia and was aimed at stepping up Asian and international efforts on non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). The seminars are focused on raising common awareness of the importance of non-proliferation and export controls across Asia and consolidating export control capabilities in the region. Since then, the Asian Export Control Seminar has been an annual event organized by the Centre for Information on Security Trade Control (CISTEC), a Japanese non-profit, non-governmental organization, bringing together international experts to discuss current issues in export control especially relevant to Asian states and the region more generally.
