ECOWAS-EU Small Arms Project: Liberia
The Economic Community Of West African States (ECOWAS)-European Union (EU) Small Arms project has been launched in Liberia. The project is implemented by the Liberia National Commission on Small Arms (LINCSA) and managed by UNDP for the next two years. The project has conducted trainings for staff of LiNSCA, civil society groups and security institutions in preparation for the collection of small arms.
The ECOWAS-EU Small Arms Project is an integral component of the programme, 'EU Support to the ECOWAS Peace, Security and Stability' mandate which seeks to support ECOWAS in its capacity to effectively address factors of instability and reinforce a proactive approach to peace-building, conflict prevention and resolution in West Africa. The project will run from 2014 to 2017 and will be implemented by UNDP's respective country offices to coordinate implementation in close coordination with the National Commission of Small Arms in the 6 selected countries categorized within the Mano River Union and the Sahel.
