Activity description

On 26-27 July 2018, ECOWAS organized a workshop in Abujda, Nigeria, to review a baseline report on Small arms and light weapons (SALW) in order to strengthen its operational capacity to integrate gender into its peace and security architecture. The workshop, attended by Experts from ECOWAS, Civil Society Organizations and the UN agencies experts, called for ECOWAS Member states to implement all regional and global resolutions regarding the involvement of women in peace and security processes as required by the UN resolution 1325. Furthermore, they recommended that lawmakers of ECOWAS Member States are sensitized on the harmful effects of the illicit proliferation and circulation of SALW, in particular on gender inequality.
