ICRC Organizes Third Conference of National Committees on International Humanitarian Law of the Americas in Bogota, Colombia

Activity description

The purpose of this conference was to discuss challenges to international humanitarian law paying special attention, inter alia, to Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) application at the national level, incorporating IHL into domestic criminal law, cyber warfare, autonomous weapons and the use of explosive weapons in densely populated areas, anti-personnel mines, explosive remnants of war and cluster munitions. The conference also discussed the progress that implementing organizations have achieved and the challenges facing IHL in the region and elsewhere.

Project description

The purpose of the national committees is to advise governments on the application and dissemination of humanitarian rules. National committees are encouraged and supported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) as one of the means of ensuring effective application of IHL.
