As part of an agreement between the League of Arab States (LAS) and the German Federal Foreign Office on building capacity for LAS staff, a workshop on SALW control and CSBMs was held on 13-14 May 2013 at LAS Headquarter in Cairo. The event, arranged with the financial support of the German Federal Foreign Office, brought together representatives of the LAS Political Affairs Department, the Social Affairs Department, the Economic Affairs Department, as well as from the Arab National Security Sector with the scope of raise awareness and build capacity on the issue. The workshop addressed several topics including: developments in SALW control at the international level, including in the framework of the ATT; current challenges regarding SALW proliferation, DDR, and SALW control; origins and Development of CSBMs, lessons learned, and CSBMs in the Middle East.
