Activity description

The purpose of the conference was to bring together all State Parties to the Inter-American Convention Against the Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, and Other Related Materials (CIFTA) in Washington DC to delineate a joint action plan. During the Conference of State Parties, a Course of Action for the Functioning and Implementation of the CIFTA during 2012-2016 was defined and agreed to as a guide to conduce all efforts towards full implementation. The action plan highlights the need, among others, to strengthen controls in export locations, supervision of brokering, the licensing system and firearms import and export licenses, ammunition and explosives and other related materials and the need to harmonize marking standards and the promotion of tracing cooperation and the application of the International Tracing Instrument (ITI).
