Philippine Coast Guard Personnel Graduate from U.S. Coast Guard Course on Outboard Motor Maintenance
As part of the U.S. Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) delivered a course on Outboard Motor Maintenance to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). The two-week course was attended by 19 PCG officers and staff from Bicol, Southern Tagalog, Northwestern Luzon and Northeastern Luzon districts. The course covered lectures and hands-on exercises on engine theory, operation of engine systems, and trouble-shooting techniques to help the PCG to maintain their vessels and engines. This activity is part of the continuing partnership between the United States and the Philippines and aims at securing maritime boarders and disrupting the illegal arms trade.
The U.S. Department of State’s Export Control and Related Border Security (EXBS) Program seeks to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and destabilizing accumulations and irresponsible transfers of conventional weapons by building effective national strategic trade control systems in countries that possess, produce, or supply strategic items, as well as in countries through which such items are most likely to transit. The program aims assist countries in developing and improving their strategic trade and related border control systems. The program providing a wide range of assistance activities, from executive exchanges to training workshops and provides detection equipment and specialized training for border control and enforcement agencies. The EXBS Program draws on the expertise and cooperation of a range of U.S. Government agencies, the private sector, and U.S. and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to provide states with legal, licensing and enforcement training, along with information systems and equipment.
