UNODC "Firearms Destruction Campaign of Firearms in Argentina"

Activity description

On 12 August 2016, the National Agency for Controlled Materials (Anmac, former RENAR) acting under the authority of the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights, in Argentina carried out the destruction of 25,000 firearms from crime, in full respect with international instruments on firearms. The material was stored in court deposits in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe and Mendoza. This event is also part of the capacity building work conducted by UNODC's Global Firearms Programme (GFP). 
GFP supports Member States in establishing comprehensive regimes to prevent and combat illicit manufacturing and trafficking in firearms, including the collection, save storage and disposal of seized and collected weapons, in line with international legal instruments and standards.    

Project description

 This activity was part of a UNODC project on strengthening capacities to combat illicit trafficking in firearms in Latin America, funded by the European Union.
