UNRCPD Arms Trade Treaty Universalization and Implementation Workshop for Central Asia and Mongolia
On 3-4 July 2019, the UNRCDP, in cooperation with the government of Kazakhstan and the financial support of the ATT-VTF, organized a workshop on Arms Trade Treaty Universalization and Implementation Workshop for Central Asia and Mongolia in Nur-Sultan.
The workshop provided a forum for discussion on the benefits of being parties to the Arms Trade Treaty and effects on other commitments of the States, and worked to build institutional capacity of the participating States for the future implementation of the Treaty. Participants included officials from Finland, Germany and Japan, the Head of the Treaty Secretariat and experts from non-governmental organizations. The workshop also provided an opportunity to discuss the Treaty’s relevance to the region and potential interrelation with other States’ commitments. Government representatives from five States were also introduced to international assistance tools, the Treaty’s voluntary trust fund and mechanisms to support and encourage membership.
This workshop was part of the UNRCPD efforts to support the ATT Secretariat in promoting the universalization of the Arms Trade Treaty.
