Activity description

From 24 April 2019 to 26 April 2019 UNREC organised a workshop on capacity-building for stakeholders involved in the implementation of the Kinshasa Convention. The workshop, attended 40 participants from ECCAS member states, aimed to present the state of implementation of the Convention as well as providing updates on other international and regional instruments related to SALW controls. The workshop concluded with the drafting of a list of recommendations for states parties in relation to the implementation of the Kinshasa Convention.

Project description

The project 'Supporting African States towards the Vision of Silencing the Guns in Africa by 2020' was launched by ECCAS, UNREC and UNOCA in the margins of the 47th UNSAC Ministerial Meeting launched on 7 December 2018. The aim of the project is to obtain the ratification of the Kinshasa Convention by Burundi, Equatorial Guinea, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Moreover, the project aims to support the harmonization with international standards of states parties' legislative frameworks on weapons and ammunition controls.
