Organized by the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence Secretariat, the workshop drew on interactive panel discussions and small group sessions. The agenda combined speakers from civil society and government from sub-Saharan Africa, Europe and Asia. Topics included tackling small arms proliferation at global to regional levels, particularly the nature of violence, from armed conflict to violent extremism or electoral violence, affecting the region and the facilitating role of SALW. Discussions also focused on the need for civil society to push for wider community disarmament programmes in the region.
