UNREC workshop to develop the training content and structure of DPKO & UNODA courses on weapons and ammunition management in Togo
As part of the DPKO and UNODA project on ´Effective weapons and ammunition management in a changing DDR context´, the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Africa (UNREC) organized a workshop in Lomé, Togo, on 5-9 February 2018 to develop the training content and structure of a course for disarmament, demobilization and reintegration (DDR). The course aimed to support the implementation of the International Small Arms Control Standards (ISACS) and the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines and targets practitioners on weapons and ammunition management. During the workshop, participants from UNREC, DPKO and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) identified the different modules of the training, chose the appropriate methodologies and monitoring and evaluation approaches. The workshop resulted in the validation of the training programme and the development of a roadmap for its implementation.
The DPKO and UNODA project on 'Effective weapons and ammunition management in a changing DDR context' aims to develop good practice and innovative approaches to equip DDR practitioners with resources to design effective weapons and ammunition management operations. This project focuses on arms control activities, including at the community level.
