Activity description

The Arias Foundation for Peace and Human Progress held a series of roundtables with the purpose of sharing firearms and ammunition marking experiences between different Central American countries. These roundtables included an expert in marking and tracing arms, Colonel Danilo Valdez, from the Dominican Republic’s Ministry of the Interior. Colonel Valdez visited El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama, presenting the methods which have led to demonstrable improvements in the Dominican Republic. These roundtables presented the opportunity share national experiences with multiple actors involved in arms control. Furthermore, each country was tasked with adding specific internal capacities that it needed to develop to the overall agenda for further discussion, so as to receive feedback from other countries. Another important part of the roundtables related to the marking of ammunition, and the Arias Foundation solicited information and data from each country as related to the costs of such an endeavour.
