Activity description

From 14 October 2019 to 18 October 2019, following an official request by the Gambian Government, ECOWAS Small Arms Division in collaboration with BICC organised a training for national officers from the Gambian Army and Police which saw the attendance of 20 participants. The training - conducted by the German Verification Center (ZVBw) and financed by the German Foreign Office - aimed to provide the participants with practical experience on PSSM activities and to strengthen national ammunition storage capacities applying international standards on small arms and ammunition control into the local context.

Project description

BICC, with the goal to strengthen the capacities of its regional partners on SALW controls and Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM), launched in 2018 a project to organise regional and national-level training activities in the field. The ultimate goal is to cooperate for the concrete implementation of the ECOWAS Convention, to provide support to RECSA and to support the African Union for the fulfillment of its obligations under the Silencing the Guns Plan of Action. The project will be running until December 2020.
