Activity description

On October 24 2018, ECOWAS, in collaboration with BICC and the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO), organised a sensitization meeting in the Gambia. The meeting, attended by national authorities, was mainly focused on the implementation of the ECOWAS Convention. Experts from MAG also took part in the event to elaborate further on possible initiatives to support the implementation of the Convention. The harmonization of Gambian legislation with regional and international instruments such as the ATT and the Firearms Protocol were also covered during discussions.

Project description

BICC, with the goal to strengthen the capacities of its regional partners on SALW controls and Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM), launched in 2018 a project to organise regional and national-level training activities in the field. The ultimate goal is to cooperate for the concrete implementation of the ECOWAS Convention and to support the African Union for the fullfilment of its obligations under the Silencing the Guns Plan of Action. The project will be running until December 2020.
