Activity description

On 28 May 2021, the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace and Disarmament in Asia and the Pacific (UNRCPD) and the Conventional Arms Branch of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) organized one-day online training on national reporting on the UN Programme of Action (UN PoA) for government officials from Asia-Pacific. The training provided a detailed run through of the reporting template by UN experts, reaching nearly 50 government officials from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Solomon Islands and Timor-Leste – all countries that did not submit their national report for the period 2018-2019. The training took place virtually via webex. Trainees included government officials serving as the National Focal Point on the PoA and the International Tracing Instrument (ITI) as well as designated officials for the reporting exercise from key ministries, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, and senior uniformed officials from Police, Navy and Army.

Project description

The webinar training was conducted in the framework of broader UNRCPD support of Asia and the Pacific States to build their capacity in preparing and on-line submission of national reports to the UN Programme of Action on SALW. The training was initiated by UNRCPD in a view of the preparation of the BMS7.
